100 Famous Wonders Around The World: The Magnificent Château de Chambord of France

The royal Chateau de Chambord in the Valley of the Loire,is one of the famous castle in the world. It is famous for its perfect and distinctive French architecture which blends traditional French medieval forms with classical Renaissance structures. This captivating world's wonder is enclosed by 52.5‑km² (13,000 acres) of wooded parkland and by a 32 km (20 miles) wall. Aside from its pleasure garden and a hunting park, the castle boasts of a double helix staircase. These helices reach up to the third floor without ever crossing path.

Chateau de Chambord was built under the reign of King Francois I. It was constructed in 1519, and was completed in 1547. This colossal structure served as a hunting lodge for the king. The castle showcases a very distinctive silhouette with its 440 rooms, 156 meter facades, 84 staircases, 365 fireplaces more than 800 sculpted columns. Also, Chambord Chateau houses 11 kinds of towers and three kinds of chimneys.

After King François death in 1574, the castle was practically abandoned for about fifty years. In 1639 King Louis XIII restores this architectural masterpiece; even adding a 1,200-horse stable. In 1947 the French government began restorations which were continued for 30 years. Today, Chambord Château offers visitors a refreshing view of the state's lavish parkland and magnificent architectural gem.

  7. Beautiful! Being rich and famous does have its perks. I always tell my hubs that I do not want a big house because it would take me forever to clean! haha. It would be a great experience to visit those places and be amazed at the affluence these royalty have.

  10. Would love to see grand castles when I visit Europe someday. I've been to humongous plantation houses in the US but nothing beats these castles! Did you say 32 kilometers of wall? Is this France's answer to China's Great Wall but on a much smaller scale?

  12. I admire Castle not because I dream to be a princess since I was a child but there is something in this structure that I wonder how they build that kind of Castle. I've been to Toronto Castle and it was stunning. I have heard the Castle that was filmed in Richie rich is 2 hrs away from where we live. I will definitely will want to check it out.
